Outer dimensions: 200 x 200 X 120 cm

Tina Born's site-specific installation, for three gatekeeper's lodges of the former branch of the former Academy of Sciences of the GDR, is a tribute to three female exeptional thinkers and pioneers: Simone Weil, Maya Deren and Maria Reiche who never became members of any sience academy. As in her previous works, Tina Born takes biographies as an occasion to develop her own site specific, kaleidoscopic system of associations and references. (Excerpt press release)

Maya Deren (1917 - 1961), dancer, ethnological researcher, avant-garde director and film theorist. The installation presented at STRouX entitled "Meditation on Violence" refers to Deren's 1948 short film of the same name, in which she experiments with non-linear narrative structures and questions psychological causalities through movement studies of kungfu and sword shaolin.
