Installation in former gatekeeper's lodge, former branch of the former Academy of Sciences of the GDR
STRouX Projektraum, Berlin

Tina Born's site-specific installation, which spans all three gatekeeper's lodges of the former branch of the former Academy of Sciences of the GDR, is a tribute to three female exeptional thinkers and pioneers: Simone Weil, Maya Deren and Maria Reiche who never became members of any sience academy. Until today the vast majority of science academy members are men. As in her previous works, Tina Born takes biographies as an occasion to develop her own site specific, kaleidoscopic system of associations and references. (Excerpt press release)

Simone Weil (1909 - 1943), philosopher, lecturer, writer, political activist, anarchist and mystic, writes in her collection of texts published in 1947 under the title "Gravity and Grace", a kind of physics of existence: "All natural movements of the soul are subject to laws that correspond to those of material gravity. Only grace makes exceptions."
