Erol / Island (room 3)

Site-specific installation

Laura Mars Gallery, Berlin

"Erol" was a site-specific installation that ran through the gallery spaces. Tina Born installed a kind of connection and recording system based on so-called stick maps, three-dimensional constructions formerly used as navigational aids and memory aids on the islands of the South Pacific. Just as in the Polynesian "stick maps" shells, stones or small bones marked special fixed points within the construction, here various objects were integrated as reference points in a three-dimensional interconnected system. Along the constructed lines, the visitor encountered, among other things, a horse, an hourglass, a presentation platform with historical travel books, pointed hats with bast fringes, and a reference to the Greek god Tithonos, who could not die, shrank more and more, and finally turned into a cicada.
